Theory

I work from a Holistic perspective and am strongly aligned with both Alfred Adler’s ideas and Adlerian thought in general.  The notion of community feeling (gemeinschaftsgefuhl) is central to the way I approach my work as a counselling therapist and to the way I travel through life.

I draw on Attachment, Family Systems, and Existential theories, and I take from and/or adapt theoretical frameworks such as Solution Focused (SFT), Cognitive Behavioural (CBT), and Dialectical Behavioural (DBT) therapies. I use motivational, encouragement, and body awareness techniques, with mindfulness and grounding as a quiet backdrop.

When working with trauma, I come from a Sensorimotor psychotherapy perspective. I offer psycho-education on  the subject of trauma and, unlike any of my other work, I regularly adopt a directive approach in order to slow the process and facilitate safe passage through the work.

Jungian-based thought enriches my work and I am inspired and influenced by the writings of James Hillman, Robert A. Johnson and David Richo, as well as
Thomas Attig
, Francis Weller, Kahil Gibran and Jiddu Krishnamurti.

I am deeply indebted to Rachel Naomi Remen and to Robert Bosnak for encouraging me to trust in not knowing and to the former for introducing me to the idea of remaining open to the concept of Mystery.
